Glossary
The biometrics and liveness terms used on this site and in the documentation.
- Liveness
- The check that a live person is in front of the camera, not a photo, screen, video or mask.
- Presentation attack (PAD)
- An attempt to fool the sensor by showing an artifact: a printed photo, screen, video or mask. Its detection is covered by ISO/IEC 30107.
- Injection attack
- An attempt to send images straight into the system, through a virtual camera or synthetic video, bypassing the real camera.
- APCER
- The rate of presentation attacks accepted as genuine, per attack type (ISO/IEC 30107-3).
- BPCER
- The rate of genuine people rejected as if they were attacks (ISO/IEC 30107-3).
- 1:1 match
- Comparing a face against one specific reference — the ID document or the face enrollment.
- 1:N match
- Searching for a face in a database of many faces. Not offered by the product.
- Threshold
- The minimum score to pass a verification. Between the reject threshold and the pass threshold lies the gray zone.
- Face enrollment (template)
- An encrypted mathematical representation of the face, used for subsequent authentications.
- MRZ
- The passport's machine-readable zone, with check digits defined by ICAO Doc 9303.
- KYC
- Know your customer: the process of identifying and vetting whoever opens an account or signs up for a service.
- Ed25519
- The digital signature algorithm (RFC 8032) used in decision receipts.
